SLG Partner Program

SLG Partner Opportunities at Salt Lake Goldens

At Salt Lake Goldens our goal is to raise well-rounded, purposefully bred Golden Retrievers while ensuring each dog receives the care, structure, and attention they need to thrive. To support this, we offer a limited number of SLG Partner opportunities for families who want to be part of our program in a meaningful and collaborative way.

An SLG Partner opportunity allows one of our carefully selected puppies or young adults to live full-time in a home environment while remaining part of our breeding program for a period of time.

What is an SLG Partner?

An SLG Partner arrangement is a partnership between Salt Lake Goldens and the partner family.

You will raise and enjoy your dog as your own, while we retain breeding rights and work closely with you throughout their time in our program. Our goal is to balance life as a family companion with responsible, intentional breeding.

Females typically remain in the program for up to 4 litters or until approximately 5 years of age

Males typically remain in the program until approximately 6 years of age

At retirement, most dogs remain with their partner family. In some cases, we may assist in placing a dog in a different home if it is in the best interest of the dog. Any placement decisions are made thoughtfully and with the dog’s long-term wellbeing as the priority.

The Investment

A $500 SLG Partner fee is required

    (applied toward spay/neuter at retirement)

Partner families are responsible for routine care, including:

Food

Routine veterinary care

Preventative health care

Grooming and day-to-day expenses

Salt Lake Goldens covers all breeding-related expenses, including:

Health testing

Titling and event-related expenses

Reproductive care

Breeding-related veterinary expenses

Why Families Choose an SLG Partner Opportunity

The opportunity to bring home a well-bred, intentionally raised AKC Golden Retriever at a reduced cost

Ongoing mentorship, support, and guidance from our program

Health testing completed at our expense prior to breeding decisions

Optional boarding with us during travel (based on availability)

The opportunity to be part of your dog’s contribution to the future of the breed

Opportunities Within the Program

Depending on the dog and family’s interest level, partner families may have opportunities to:

Work with us to train and title their dog

Participate in conformation, performance, and other AKC events

Gain exposure to dog sports and structured training

Be involved in their dog’s development beyond typical pet ownership

Compensation

Females: $50 per puppy produced once puppies are placed

Males: $100 per successful litter

What We Look For in an SLG Partner Home

We are selective about placement because these dogs represent our program.

Ideal homes will:

Be located within a reasonable distance of Roy, Utah (or willing to travel as needed)

Raise the dog as a family companion (indoor home required)

Be committed to training, structure, and proper socialization

Be comfortable with kennel/crate training as part of the dog’s routine

Maintain open, honest communication with us

Follow our guidance on nutrition and general care

Ensure all opposite-sex dogs in the home are spayed/neutered

Be willing to coordinate scheduling for health testing and breeding needs

Program Commitments

Because these dogs remain part of our program, there are additional responsibilities associated with being an SLG Partner.

Females

Stay with us during heat cycles (typically 1–2 weeks)

Return approximately 1 week prior to whelping

Remain with us until puppies are fully weaned

Males

Be available for short stays (typically 5–7 days) for breedings as needed

Our Approach

This is a partnership built on communication, trust, and shared responsibility.

We are committed to producing healthy, stable, well-tempered Golden Retrievers while ensuring each dog is raised with structure, care, and intention. SLG Partner opportunities allow us to continue doing that while working closely with families who genuinely want to be part of the process.
